Another Five-Star Rated Seattle Nursing Facility Decides to Close

Earlier this week the Ida Culver House Broadview skilled nursing facility announced that it will be closing by January 5, 2020. For over three decades, Ida Culver House has maintained a strong reputation for compassionate nursing care. The community has long maintained a “Five Star” rating from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In a letter to its community partners, Ida Culver’s Executive Director Brittany Bell explained that “in recent years, a number of external factors have driven us to evaluate our skilled nursing and rehab services, including market trends, reimbursement rate challenges, and regulatory complexity.” The closure will result in the layoff of 147 full- and part-time workers, and 53 current residents will be transitioned to new settings in the next 60 days.

The closure of Ida Culver House marks the 19th closure of a Washington-based skilled nursing facility in the last three years. All indications are that more closures of other Washington-based nursing homes will be coming in the months ahead unless something is done to address the current crisis.
