Honoring Our Seniors

David Stuczko is a fan of country western and spy movies. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and James Bond are staples for David, who is currently a resident of Avalon Care Center of Federal Way.

David grew up in New Amsterdam, New York. He had a long career serving in the military. When asked what drove him to join, he chuckled and said, “I had nothing else to do." When he was stationed in West Germany, he had the opportunity to visit Soviet Germany, an experience he only described as “strange." David found he liked the military and spent 20 years in the service as a mechanic. He was eventually stationed at Fort Lewis, now Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where he made Washington his home. After he left the military, he returned to work as a finish carpenter.

David came to Avalon Care Center of Federal Way nearly six months ago. His sister travels to Florida for the winter and like many families, she needed to find a place to help care for her brother. Though David came to Avalon with few expectations, he was surprised by how his experience has been much better than he anticipated. He appreciates the openness of the staff and his ability to form friendships with them and the other residents. He has been enjoying his stay, but is hoping to return home soon.

The story of David is similar to those of many seniors in Washington. A man who served his country, worked hard, and helped build our community now needs care in a nursing home. It is important that David and so many others continue to have access to the quality care at nursing homes like Avalon Care Center of Federal Way.
